Cool Places to Beat the Heat in Kailua

By July 20, 2022September 15th, 2022No Comments

It’s July, which means more warm weather ahead and the perfect time to line up some tasty, new ways to ditch the daily routine and beat the summer heat in Kailua Town.

Start off Cool at The Sunrise Shack

Greet the day or go for a mid-afternoon boost with one of The Sunrise Shack’s bullet coffees on ice. The Classic Bullet is made with organic coffee, coconut oil, MCT oil, grass-fed butter and vanilla. You’ll find seven other bullet flavor combos with superfood add-ons that offer the same creamy deliciousness.

Banán’s Pineapple Yachts and Papaya Boats

For the uninitiated, Banán takes organic, Hawaii-grown bananas and whirls them into soft-serve, plant-based smoothies, bowls and floats, adding natural flavors and toppings for a refreshing boost on a hot summer day.

You can order any of Banán’s bowls in half of a fresh pineapple or papaya. These pineapple yachts and papaya boats bring a healthy, new meaning to super-sized. If the kiddos are in tow, the Banán cups are right-sized for smaller appetites.

Oh, and Banán gives all of its banana peels and other food scraps to local farms to use as animal feed or turn into compost. How cool is that?

Kailua’s Newest Happy Hour Hangout

Open daily for lunch and dinner, Paia Fishmarket is the newest addition to Kailua’s culinary scene and happy hour hangouts. Fresh catch plates offer half a dozen choices of fish prepared four ways with a choice of sides. Other options include pasta and Mexican dishes, burgers, salads and appetizers. While the menu is seafood-centric, non-fish eaters will find plenty of possibilities to ponder.

Lilikoi margaritas, Moscow mules, mai tais and mojitos are on the happy hour drink menu, available daily, 3-6 p.m.

Craft Cocktails and Floats at MBC

There’s a new addition to Maui Brewing Co.’s intriguing menu of craft cocktails: Sloshie of the Day – a frozen cocktail blended with MBC’s growing line of island-made Kupu Spirits.

For a sweet fix after dinner, Maui Brewing’s hand-crafted root beer stars in a non-alcoholic float made with Roselani vanilla bean ice cream. Or try the adult float on MBC’s Imperial Coconut Porter.
