A new collaboration + new tenants coming to Kailua Town

There’s a new collaboration in Kailua Town! Twin Islands Clothing and The Sunrise Shack have set up shop together at Kailua Beach Center, blending two popular local brands under one roof.

The Sunrise Shack x Twin Islands

This is the second Kailua location for Twin Islands, a lifestyle brand established in 2009 by Mike Miller in honor of his late twin brother, Peter. The two grew up in Lanikai and surfed out to the “twin” Mokulua islets every chance they had, inspiring the company’s name and iconic logo. Graphic tees, hoodies and boardshorts; aloha shirts and hats reflect Kailua’s natural beauty and beachy vibe.

The Sunrise Shack was the dream of brothers Alex, Travis and Koa Smith and their friend Koa Rothman to expand their small North Shore fruit stand into a coffee stand at Sunset Beach. That was in 2016. It soon became a popular stop for locals to grab an energizing bullet coffee, superfood smoothie bowls and other healthy fare (Bullet coffee, for the uninitiated, is made with organic coffee, coconut oil, MCT oil, grass-fed butter and a taste of vanilla – ingredients that add up to creamy deliciousness shown to give your brain a boost, among other benefits.) The company added locations at Shark’s Cove and in Waikiki, and now its fourth location Kailua Town, with an expanded menu that also includes salads, sandwiches and wraps.

As Mike Miller tells it, the owners of the two companies were introduced by mutual friends and immediately clicked. “We are all brothers with professional surfing backgrounds, and we shared the same vision for a beach location in Kailua. The collaboration took off from there.” Right on!
